Tour Duration: Tour is expected to end about 5:00 PM at the Centreville Library

Uniform of the Day: Dress for the expected weather for the day, wear comfortable shoes.  Tour walking distance will be about 1.5 miles over rolling terrain.

Lunch: Pack your own lunch, bring water.  We will return to the Contact Station for lunch and indoor plumbing.

Tour Features:  The morning portion of the tour will be driving to locations off of the preserved Cedar Mountain land, but relevant to the battle. Much of where we will visit is in private hands. Stops include Crooked Run Ford and Crooked Run Baptist Church, the Cedar Mountain Shelf, Knap’s and Pegram’s Battery positions, and Federal Monuments on private property. We will also see the position Rickett’s division held, one of Pope’s Headquarters and the ground where Crawford’s and Gordon’s brigades assembled.

After lunch, we will commence a walking tour of the battlefield.   Stops include the location of General Charles Winders mortal wounding and Major R. Snowden Andrews wounding; Jubal Early’s position along Crittenden Lane and the limit of Geary’s Ohio Brigade’s advance. We will continue to the where Samuel Crawford’s brigade penetrated the thin Confederate line, show how Lawrence O’Brian Branch’s brigade timely arrival and the Stonewall’s brigade’s late arrival -- both at the right place and times turned the tide of battle. The tour will continue to the 3rd Wisconsin Monument and the field where Gordon’s small brigade advanced against portions of seven Confederate brigades. We will conclude the walking tour along the Orange Court House-Culpeper Court House road where 160 Pennsylvania Cavalry troopers bought time for Nathanial Banks shattered corps to escape.

The tour should conclude at 4 p.m. back at the Contact Station.
