BRCWRT/ Wolf Run Shoals tour

SCOPE OF TOUR:  A good portion of the Wolf Run Shoals area, including the historic Rochambeau Rd. and its route across the Occoquan River, plus traces of the Union encampments (still there).







Tour Marching Orders

Date/Time: Saturday 14 March 2020 9:00 AM

Assembly Location:   We will meet no later than 8:45 AM at the end of Wolf Run Shoals Road (VA Rte 610) = approx. 5 ½ miles south of Fairfax Station, Virginia
GPS address:  Closest address is 8950 Wolf Run Shoals Road, Clifton, VA
Allow at least 30 to 40 minutes travel time from most locations in Northern Virginia
    • From:  Rte 123 – Ox Road:  From SECOND traffic light south of Rte 123 intersection with Fairfax Parkway, turn right on Chapel Road.  Turn left within ¼ mile on Wolf Run Shoals Road and follow it until it intersects with Henderson Road (you will cross Clifton Road partway there).  Bear right on Henderson road and within ½ mile, turn left on Wolf Run Shoals Road.  Follow it to dead end. 
    • From Clifton Area:  Drive east on Clifton Road until it intersects with Wolf Run Shoals Road.  Turn right and follow it until it intersects Henderson Road.  Bear right on Henderson road and within ½ mile, turn left on Wolf Run Shoals Road.  Follow it to dead end. 
    • From Prince William County:  Either Yates Ford Road across the Occoquan to Henderson Road to Wolf Run Shoals Road to dead end or Route 123 north across the Occoquan to Henderson Road (Fairfax County) to Wolf Run Shoals Road to dead end.
 
PARKING:  Please join others in your travels as available parking is limited at the site.  Upon arrival at the end of WRS road, make a U-Turn and drive back up the road and park on the righthand side of the road as much as possible.

EXERTION: We will hike for approximately 2.0 miles on uneven ground. We’d recommend bringing water, wear comfortable shoes, a cap, and long pants/jeans.  Even though not difficult, these uneven pathways and trails are not advisable for people with special needs.

REST ROOMS:  No rest rooms (plenty of trees) on the tour route. Recommend use of facilities before arrival for the tour.

Tour Duration: 9:00 A.M. until approximately 12:30 P.M.

Uniform of the Day: Wear comfortable shoes, a cap, & long pants/jeans
