The Seven Days Battles:  Gaines’ Mill, Glendale and Malvern Hill

TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

The Seven Days Battles was a series of six major engagements from June 25 to July 1, 1862.  We will tour the three most important actions on the 150th anniversary of the Battle at Glendale.  Highlights include a visit to the new Texas Brigade monument and following the route of the 4th TX in their decisive charge at Gaines’ Mill.

TOUR MARCHING ORDERS

Date: Saturday 30 June 2012 

Assembly Time & Location: If you want to carpool to the battlefield, meet at the Centreville Library parking lot -- we will depart at 7:30 AM sharp.  If you choose to drive on your own, meet the group at the Mechanicsville McDonald’s parking lot (7059 Mechanicsville Turnpike, Mechanicsville, VA) MAP between 9:30 and 9:45.  (Driving time from Centreville is about 2 hours).

Degree of Exertion: We will walk all three battlefields.  Approximately 2 hours at Gaines’ Mill, 1 hour at Glendale (NPS led anniversary tour) and 1:30 at Malvern Hill.  The Gaines’ Mill walk includes steep inclines on a path across Boatswain’s Swamp (following Hood’s Texas Brigade).  The other sites are easy walking

Tour Duration: 9:30 AM until 6:30 PM (approximate return time to Centreville).

Lunch: A number of fast food options will be available for lunch.   

Special: Wear a hat, bring water, insect repellant etc.
