SCOPE OF TOUR:
This tour spans from the Revolutionary War through the
end of the Civil War in Fairfax County. Walk the road
that enabled transport of GW’s supplies to Yorktown
and see several Union earthworks/encampments when this
area was the default Mason-Dixon line early in the
Civil War. Learn about the Union AOP’s right wing
onerous march through here to the Battle of Gettysburg
and its connection with JEB Stuart’s controversial
ride to Gettysburg. Finally, learn about a war-ending
event by Mosby’s Rangers that occurred here.

123 – Ox Road: From
SECOND traffic light south of Rte. 123 intersection
with Fairfax Parkway, turn right onto Chapel Road.
Turn left within ¼ mile onto Wolf Run Shoals Road
and follow it until it intersects with Henderson
Road (you will cross Clifton Road partway there).
Bear right onto Henderson Rd. and within ½ mile,
turn left onto Wolf Run Shoals Road. Follow it to
dead end.

Clifton Area: Drive
east on Clifton Road until it intersects with Wolf
Run Shoals Road. Turn right and follow it until it
intersects Henderson Road. Bear right onto Henderson
Road and within ½ mile, turn left onto Wolf Run
Shoals Road. Follow it to dead end.

From Prince
William County: Take
either Yates Ford Road across the Occoquan to
Henderson Road to Wolf Run Shoals Road to dead end
or Route 123 north across the Occoquan to Henderson
Road (Fairfax County) to Wolf Run Shoals Road to
dead end.

DURATION: 9:15 AM / 2 ½ hrs.
PARKING: Park at the terminus of
Wolf Run Shoals Rd. If the limited parking spaces are
taken, make
a U-Turn and park on the righthand side of the road.
EXERTION:
Given the terrain and path (periodically “off road”)
this tour will traverse, it is not
advisable
for anyone with special mobility needs.
Please wear appropriate hiking attire, a bottle of
water and a walking-stick.
REST ROOMS: No
rest rooms (plenty of trees) on
the tour route. Recommend use of
facilities before arrival for the tour.

INCLEMENT
WEATHER: Should the weather
